Analyzing my Uber Trips in R : Part 2

These days I’m mostly reading, watching about time management, how to use time effectively and strikes about the travel time so I fetched my trip data from Uber and Ola. Uber(USA based but also operated in India) and Ola(India Based) both are online cab aggregator platforms provides cab booking facility though there web and app based platforms.

In my earlier post you can read how to fetch data from Uber using Uber API in R. Ola doesn’t provide any direct API so I had use other methods with some manual work which will I write in next blog post. Analyzing Uber Trips in R : Part 1. Let’s see some of my findings

I’ve already exported my data in a .csv file which contains data from both the Cab platforms.

Trip details: 1st Oct’17 to 20th May’18. I’ve considered only office commute trips and filtered out my personal trips. Distance between my home and office in 6.3 Kms or 3.9 miles. Details are as follows:

• Total office trips(to and fro): 328

• Total time spent in Cab: 411 hours or 17 days or 51 working days (considering 8 working hours per day) in last 8 months

• Avg per day travel(to and fro combined): 83 mins

• Avg waiting time: 10 mins

I still figuring out a way a plot my trip route.

Note: I’ve used 98% pool rides. In last 30 days I’ve noticed that I’ve travel mostly alone in pool rides though the average one side travel time is 45-50 mins. 45-50 mins for 7 Kms that’s huge!

Some of the questions arises :

1. Is working from home is better option? may be yes!

2. What could’ve been done in those 51 days or to be precise those 411 hours?
I could’ve finished 8 books- I did 2

3. What I do I do during travel:
a. Sleep
b. Read a book(mostly in the morning)
c. Browse internet: Social media- 30%,
Youtube- Educational video,Politics and News,Tech video, Ted Talk etc.- 40%,
Other videos- 30%

4. Something has to be done for urban planning? I guess yes! I leave that part to an expert.

5. How close is Uber to their mission? I read somewhere that Uber’s ultimate mission is get you a cab in 5 mins any where in the world(I’m not sure how true it is couldn’t find the exact source). Clearly if that is their goal Uber is far away since my average waiting time is 10.8 mins in Uber
