Top N Values in Tableau

In this tutorial we’ll be learning to create a parameter to find Top N values in Tableau. I’ll be using superstore data for the tutorial. This tutorial is very helpful for executive Dashboards.

Create a Chart and Parameter

In the first step we’ll be creating a basic chart and Parameter. Since I am using superstore data. Place Discount in Columns shelf and Customer Name in rows shelf.1-compressed

 

Now we’ll be creating parameter for values.

Go to Parameters>Create Parameter.

A create window will appear to create the parameter. Name the parameter as you want and give the values which you want. Select current value which will be the default value. Check the image below for reference.

Creating Calculated field

 

Create the following two calculated field for working of parameter.

and show the parameter

In the final step place the calculated field ABC to the filters and select TRUE option and that’s done.
